I.

The sky in the middle of deciding to rain;

thighs burning, one foot, then another

the spur, gully, pitch;

roots clinging to rocks,

feeling their way in the darkness,

long fingers of evolutionary survival.

II.

Near the top, enchanted,

trees dwarfed and a bed of moss;

sitting in the clouds;

glitters of white floating through evergreen;

this moment will not be like the next.
