Mount Jackson (4,052') and Mount Pierce (4,310')

rain interrupts his day

A man, from his bedroom window, debates
if he should even go outside at all, thinking of
his goulashes and the risk of an upturned
umbrella. He watches the others, on their
way to work, suffer and hunch against the
unexpected wet sheets, pouring down,
staining the sidewalks a darker grey,
splashing on good shoes when cars drive by.
Then, something else catches his eye—
An old woman, standing still, not even wearing
a raincoat, pearls collecting on her arms,
eyes closed, with a secret smile. Her head is
cocked to the side as if she’s holding a conch shell
to her ear, the man opens his window and closes
his eyes, to hear the sound of the ocean.
