ONE DAY, TWO SEASONS

Our hike held a secret today,
starting in autumn’s leaves,
a path over the path under
our feet, and even though
the sky was gray, they glowed.

Imagine our surprise to see
half way up, through a break
in the trees, winter’s delicate
white and blue, splitting the
mountain in seasons two.

Snow waited on top like a
patient friend. One who knows,
but doesn’t say, it will be a
while before the ice around
your heart melts away.

Description: We hiked a one-way traverse of Galehead Mountain, South Twin and North Twin, covering three NH48s. The hike was about 12 miles total with approximately 3000 ft. elevation gain.
