THE WAY A LEAF GROWS

I think it’s trying to teach us something

before being concealed by pigments

fully formed with reds and yellows

the young voice of Spring’s tender green

unable to hide and fat with chlorophyll

extends itself with a glowing light,

dark pines, now seeming darker,

this two-toned landscape

won’t stay this way long at all

nor will this shock of brave tenderness

Description: Mount Chocorua (3,480'), one of the 52 with a view in NH, has many trail options. A nice loop starts at Piper trail, then connects with Carter Ledge, crossing over Three Sisters and looping back on the Weetamoo Trail. This route is about 8.6 miles with 2,700' elevation gain.
